Trump aide John Kelly to leave White House job

Postado Dezembro 08, 2018

President Donald Trump says chief of staff John Kelly will leave his job at the end of the year.

It follows reports on Friday that Trump had stopped speaking to Kelly, the latest development in a relationship frayed over retired Marine general Kelly's struggles to bring order to the West Wing. Trump has taken the unusual step of inviting Ayers to recently accompany him on Air Force One, even without Pence present, the people said.

Trump is further expected to announce Heather Nauert as the new United States ambassador to the UN on Friday, replacing Nikki Haley.

That's according to Axios Friday, citing anonymous White House sources who claim the president and Kelly are butting heads.

The Washington Post reported later Friday that individuals familiar with White House plans said Trump is expected to choose Gen. Mark Milley, the head of the Army, to become next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Trump added: "But, John will be leaving at the end of the year". But each time the two have decided to make amends, even as Kelly's influence has waned. And his handling of domestic violence accusations against the former White House staff secretary also caused consternation, especially among lower-level White House staffers, who believed Kelly had lied to them about when he found out about the allegations. The president often remarks on Kelly's lack of political skills and has told advisers in recent days that he needs a more political chief of staff for his reelection.
