According to NFL Network, Williams will be heading to the New York Jets to join the staff of recently hired head coach Adam Gase. He took over for fired Browns coach Hue Jackson mid-season and led the team to a 5-3 record in the interim role.

One possible defensive coordinator candidate was ruled out today as former Broncos head coach Vance Joseph is set to join the Arizona Cardinals.

Williams was let go by the Browns after being passed over for the head-coaching job this week.

Previously, Joseph had been a defensive backs coach with the Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers.

Williams, meanwhile, had also been a head coach with the Buffalo Bills from 2001 to 2003, going 17-31 and never finishing above.500. Prior to being hired by the Browns in 2017, Williams worked with the Redskins (2004-07), Jaguars (2008), Saints (2009-11), Rams (2012, 2014-16) and Titans (2013).
