One of them is Missy Elliott, the first female hip-hop artist to be inducted.

A songwriter qualifies for induction 20 years after the first commercial release of a song. Missy Elliott is also a five-time Grammy Award victor. Her six studio albums have each been RIAA platinum certified or better, making her the only woman rapper with this accomplishment.

"That's true now more than ever, so I'm very proud that in my first year as Chairman of the Songwriter's Hall of Fame that we are recognizing some of the culturally most important songwriters of all time".

"The first thing you need to know is it's about the song, the second thing you need to know is it's about the song, the third thing you need to know is it's about the song", Songwriters Hall of Fame Chairman Nile Rodgers said.

According to CBS News, which revealed her nomination on "CBS This Morning: Saturday", Elliott will be inducted along with five other artists in 2019: Cat Stevens, John Prine, Tom T. Hall, Dallas Austin and Jack Tempchin.

"The 2019 slate of inductees represents diversity and unity across genres and gender, highlighting our dedicated mission to honor music creators who have enriched our lives", the Chic guitarist continued. While the induction has been made official as of this writing, an actual ceremony will be held on June 13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City, which allows for her loved ones to share in the moment "physically".
