The two victims, a man and a woman both in their 20s, were transported to nearby Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Bass said. The woman was first reported in serious condition after being shot in the leg.
Dispatch officials confirmed Sunday that police responded to a shooting at Fashion Place Mall in Murray. She was ultimately treated and released from the hospital.
Shoppers were escorted by police out of the mall holding their hands in the air.
The Fashion Place mall is a highly visited shopping center in the heart of the Salt Lake City metro area that includes stores such as Crate and Barrel, Macy's and Nordstrom.
Authorities are searching for multiple suspects in a Utah mall shooting that injured two people.
For people at the mall who were separated by the shooting police have set up a reunification post at the Taco Bell restaurant near the mall at 6111 South State St.in Murray. "I felt like we couldn't run fast enough to get out of there".
"There should have been a different kind of alert system and I understand they don't want to panic people and say 'shooter involved, '" Moss said.
"People started running. Right in front of our store, I watched people get shot down", she said.
"We were mostly all quiet and in shock", said Calacino, a 21-year-old student at the University of Utah. He said he's never heard of a shooting like this happening in Murray before.
"People running to their cars, nearly hitting each other to try to get out of the parking lot", she said. Some people were crying.
The Salt Lake Tribune newspaper reports officers are searching for the gunman.
"We are grateful to our security and the quick response of our partners at the Murray Police Department", wrote Fashion Place on Twitter.
"It's fight or flight", Madsen said, wiping away tears.
"All of a sudden we start looking around from the back end, which I believe is Dillard's, all of a sudden we just see people running".
