Flu now widespread in Tennessee

The Ohio Department of Health reports a three-year-old boy has died due from illness related to the flu. The county health department is investigating. The state also reported six child deaths related to the flu previous year.

Influenza cases typically begin to increase in October and the season can run as late as May.

A 3-year-old Highland County child has died from the flu in the state's first pediatric flu-related death, according to various news outlets.

Flu shots and frequent hand - washing are good ways to protect yourself from contracting influenza.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says flu activity in Tennessee is now considered widespread. "If you are sick with the flu, stay home from work or school to prevent spreading it to others", de Fijter said.
