Thunder waive guard Alex Abrines, report says

Postado Fevereiro 12, 2019

The Alex Abrines saga came to its conclusion today for the Oklahoma City Thunder, as the organization has officially waived the 25-year-old shooting guard.

Abrines has played in just two games since December 23rd due to a personal matter.

The Rockets traded the Abrines pick, along with Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb, a 2014 first-round pick which became Mitch McGary and a 2013 first-round pick which became Steven Adams to the Thunder for James Harden.

"He's still battling through some things and wasn't able to be here tonight". Basketball aside, we wish him the absolute best and hope he finds peace moving forward. "He's around the team, we always talk and communicate". He signed with the Thunder in 2016 after four seasons with FC Barcelona, where he was named the EuroLeague Rising Star. He was expected to be a significant role player for the Thunder, providing floor spacing alongside Russell Westbrook and Paul George.

The Thunder roster now stands at 12. Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, teams can have as few as 11 players on its active roster, but only for up to two weeks at a time. It's likely they will use 10-day contracts to fill the void while waiting on the buyout picture to clear.

In 31 games this season, Abrines averaged 5.3 points and 1.5 rebounds over 19.0 minutes.

The Palma de Mallorca native appeared in a total of 174 games (16 starts) for the Thunder during the past three seasons where he registered career averages of 5.3 points and 1.4 rebounds in 16.0 minutes.
