Cornell was also the father of Lily, 18. He was a rock icon, the godfather of grunge...

"He was also one of the greatest poets of his time, whose. soaring, unforgettable vocals made him the voice of a generation", Christopher went on.

Toni added, "His voice was his vision and his music was his peace ... thank you to our mom - his love, his muse and his saviour who continues to carry out our father's legacy ... this is for you, daddy".

Cornell, who died by suicide at the age of 52 on May 17, 2017, was nominated against "Four Out of Five" by Arctic Monkeys, Greta Van Fleet's "Highway Tune", "Uncomfortable" by Halestorm and The Fever 333's "Made in America".

He finished by describing Cornell as "the greatest father and our hero".

The emotional moment came after the singer's children walked the GRAMMY Awards red carpet outside the Staples Center in Los Angeles, alongside their mother and Cornell's widow, Vicky Cornell. The 14-year-old wore a white shirt with a black-and-white photo of her father, which she paired with a leather jacket, black shorts with tights and combat boots.

The singer attended the Grammy Awards past year with his wife, their daughter Toni, and his daughter from another relationship, Lillian Jean Cornell. Again, we're so proud of him and it was unbelievable.' Last month, the Cornell family were joined by many of Hollywood's stars as they held a memorial concert at the Forum.

All proceeds were split between the research charity and the Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation - which was founded by the singer and his wife, Vicky Cornell. Then in November of 2018, fans received a posthumous career-spanning box set, fittingly-titled Chris Cornell. This is his third award.
