In addition, drivers who earn points in the Xfinity Series are ineligible to compete in Triple Truck Challenge races and the championship race for the Gander Outdoors Truck Series. We can not allow inspection and penalties to continue to be a prolonged storyline. The runner-up will be declared the victor, with the auto found illegal getting just one championship point.
"When you leave the race track on Sunday night, you'll know who the race victor is from our perspective".
Kevin Harvick's race-winning auto failed inspection twice last season and both instances led to fines, suspensions and the loss of points.
The "Triple Truck Challenge" is an added incentive for NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series regulars racing at these three stand-alone events. NASCAR said it will now eject team members, dock practice time and, in an enhanced penalty, bar a auto from trying to qualify for the race if it fails three times.
Twenty drivers are eligible to compete in the Advance Auto Parts Clash at Daytona International Speedway on Sunday, one half of the season-opening Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series doubleheader.
O'Donnell said Kennedy will take ownership of new projects and expand his reach globally to include NASCAR's racing series in Canada, Mexico and Europe.
"We've been through a deterrence model where we've really worked with the race teams at the track and probably been more lenient than we should in terms of the number of times teams can go through inspection and pass, fail and there's nearly incentive to try to get something by NASCAR, so we want to really reverse that trend".
For races conducted at short and intermediate tracks, round one will be 10 minutes long, equaling the length of the second round and shortened by five minutes. The break between rounds will be trimmed from seven minutes to five. Road-course qualifying will continue to be two rounds at 25 minutes followed by a 10-minute final round.
Qualifying at superspeedways (Daytona and Talladega) will remain two untimed rounds of single-lap qualifying. NASCAR said it was near certain the new auto will have a composite body. "We are proud to partner with the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards to create the ultimate Saturday night stock vehicle doubleheader".
"Our industry understands the need to focus on what happens on the race track", O'Donnell said.
"It's neat in the sense that it's a little bit different", NASCAR Managing Director of Racing Operations and International Development and former Truck race victor Ben Kennedy said. Kennedy previously served as general manager of the Truck Series. China remains a targeted market for NASCAR.
"The Great American Speedway" is the first of three straight "Triple Truck Challenge" races, going second to Iowa Speedway then to Gateway Motorsports Park.
The Truck Series will have a three-race program with an opportunity to win up to $500,000 in bonus money. A round sweep will notch $500,000.
