Beto O'Rourke announces that he is running for president in 2020

Postado Março 15, 2019

Early opinion polls on the 2020 race have consistently ranked O'Rourke in the top tier of more than a dozen declared or possible Democratic contenders, behind former Vice President Joe Biden, who has not yet said whether he is running, and U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, a 2016 presidential contender who announced his 2020 candidacy last month. "I don't see how we're able to meet any of the fundamental challenges that we have as a country without, in part, harnessing the power of the market".

Meanwhile, a source tied to O'Rourke's campaign confirmed to Reuters that the ex-congressman would be running. "This city is the best example of this country at its best".

While he narrowly lost his U.S. Senate race to incumbent Republican Ted Cruz past year, O'Rourke managed to build a nationwide following with his unconventional, optimistic style combined with a populist message that brought in nearly US$80 million in primarily small donations.

His track record during six years in the US House of Representatives is thin.

He also held a rally in El Paso on the same night in February that Republican President Donald Trump staged one there.

They include several USA senators: Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, Amy Klobuchar, and the leader among the current candidates, liberal powerhouse Bernie Sanders.

O'Rourke revealed during the interview for the April issue that he wanted to run for president, adding that he is "just born to be in it".

O'Rourke, a former punk musician who sometimes went skateboarding to blow off steam on the Texas campaign trail, may quickly achieve rockstar status if he runs.
