CBOE Puts Brakes on Bitcoin Futures

Postado Março 16, 2019

The unit of Cboe Global Markets said Thursday that it would not add a new bitcoin futures market for March, citing a need to review how it approaches the space.

However, CBOE contracts already listed remain in operation, and the last contract listed will expire in June. The exchange operator also says it is now considering its future stance on cryptocurrency derivatives trading. "While it considers its next steps, CFE does not now intend to list additional XBT futures contracts for trading", - the company explained.

According to an official release, the CFE operator stated, "The CFE is assessing its approach with respect to how it plans to continue to offer digital asset derivatives for trading". While it considers its next steps, CFE does not now intend to list additional XBT futures contracts for trading.

Cboe, along with rival Chicago futures exchange CME Group, made a big splash in late 2017 when each introduced bitcoin futures contracts.

Rival CME exchange last month announced it had hit a new record of 18,338 bitcoin futures contracts traded, equivalent to around Dollars 360 million - although figures from March have been significantly lower.
