NY police said Sunday they are questioning a 24-year-old male in connection with the shooting death of Francesco "Franky Boy" Cali.

This photo made available by the Italian Police in 2008 shows Francesco "Franky Boy" Cali.

Al Jazeera's Gabriel Elizondo reports from ny.

The report said the man is from Staten Island, where the fatal shooting of Cali occurred Wednesday in front of his home in the Hilltop Terrace section of the borough.

"There are multiple, multiple angles that we are exploring", Shea said at a news conference at police headquarters.

The 53-year-old Cali, a native of Sicily, was shot to death by a gunman who may have crashed his truck into Cali's vehicle to lure him outside.

Police said surveillance video captures the shooter, and the pick-up believed to be the getaway truck.

Federal prosecutors in Brooklyn had referred to Cali in court filings in recent years as the underboss of the Gambino organization, related through marriage to the Inzerillo clan in the Sicilian Mafia.

Police are still investigating the motive behind Cali's murder, he said, including whether it might have been a domestic altercation or a mob-related killing. For one, a 24-year-old man from Brick, New Jersey has already been arrested in connection with the murder. They were able to link him to Cali's murder after finding his fingerprints on a silver Cadillac Escalade belonging to the deceased mobster.

It was the first assassination of a New York City mob boss since an upstart John Gotti had Gambino boss Paul Castellano whacked outside Sparks Steak House in 1985.
