Oh, Baby! April the Giraffe Gives Birth During Livestream Again

Postado Março 17, 2019

April, the world-famous mother giraffe, gave birth to her fifth calf Saturday.

Her delivery started around 11 a.m.

April has given birth to four calves, according to Animal Adventure Park.

The baby boy was born at the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, NY, and his birth took less than two hours and at its peak some 300,000 people tuned in to watch the live stream on YouTube.

Staff at Animal Adventure Park report April started cleaning and stimulating her back end around 1 a.m.

Giraffes are typically pregnant for a period between 14 and 15 months. "With wild giraffe numbers plummeting annually, every calf born counts", Jordan Patch, owner of Animal Adventure Park, said. Now it is a matter of time until April gives birth to a bouncing baby giraffe. More than a million people watched the live feed as she gave birth in, appropriately enough, April of that year.

The internet success was a surprise for the small zoo 130 miles northwest of New York City.

This is reportedly April's fifth calf and the second for her and Oliver, the dad of Tajiri and the newborn.

The name of Tajiri's new companion, Johari, which the park said is Swahili for Jewel, was also chosen through an online contest.

Fans will be able to see the little one face to face when Animal Adventure Park opens for the season on May 1.

Zoo officials said big brother Tajiri, meanwhile, is on his way to starting a family of his own.

Fans of April the Giraffe can rejoice because the well-known animal welcomed a baby boy on Saturday, park officials said.
