O empresário tinha 91 anos, e estava afastado de cargos na empresa desde 1998, mas era consultor da adaministração da multinacional sueca. Nascido em 1926 em Samaland, no sul da Suécia, Ingvar fundou a IKEA aos 17 anos. Anos mais tarde, em 2011, uma investigação da televisão sueca Sveriges ligou Kamprad a vários grupos nazis , com destaque para o Partido Nacional-Socialista Alemão (NSDAP) de Hitler.
