Chinese rover powers up on moon mission

Chinese rover powers up on moon mission

While the USA, Russia and China have all successfully landed spacecraft on the side of the moon that faces earth, China alone has just landed on the "far" or "dark" side. Yutu 2 has already put a fair bit of space between itself and the lander, trundling over near the rim of a small crater on the floor of Von Kármán, which itself lies within an even larger impact feature - the 1,550-mile-wide (2,500 km) South Pole-Aitken Basin. Chinese Rover Making Tracks on Dark Side of the Moon

Chinese Rover Making Tracks on Dark Side of the Moon

The area available for the landing is only one eighth of that for Chang'e-3, and is surrounded by mountains as high as 10 km. Chang'e-4 includes two main parts: the main lander weighing about 1,088 pounds and a 136-kilogramme rover. The Long March 3B rocket carrying Chang'e 4 blasted off on December 8 from Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southern China. Launched from Xichang in southwest China's Sichuan province on Dec 8, the spacecraft is on a mission to seek out what lies on this ... Consulte Mais Informação

Gates Foundation-backed scientists

Gates Foundation-backed scientists "hack photosynthesis" to make plant

Crops such as rice, wheat and soybeans, as well as fruits and vegetables have a naturally occurring "glitch" in the way they photosynthesize that causes the plants to use up energy and resources, drastically suppressing productivity. The Illinois researchers have engineered new detoxifying pathways that save enough resources to boost plant growth by 40 percent. This is the first time that an engineered photorespiration fix has been tested in real-world agronomic conditions. Consulte Mais Informação
